World Vision #DapatReady: Essential Tips for Staying Safe during the Rainy and Typhoon Season
After enduring the sweltering summer heat, we’re finally heading into a season of relief with the arrival of the rains. The cooler temperatures and refreshing showers are a welcome change, but we need to stay alert.
Here in the Philippines, the rainy season often brings strong storms, typhoons, and the risk of flooding, which can lead to evacuations. Though we enjoy the cooler weather, it’s important to be prepared and stay safe. Preparing and taking the right actions can ensure your safety and well-being.
Here are 10 essential #DapatReady tips from World Vision to help you stay safe during this season:
1. Stay informed
Regularly monitor weather forecasts and updates from reliable sources. Knowing when a typhoon or heavy rain is expected allows you to take timely precautions.
2. Create an emergency plan
Develop a family emergency plan that includes evacuation routes, meeting points, and communication methods. Ensure every family member knows the plan.
3. Prepare an emergency kit
Assemble an emergency kit with essentials such as water, non-perishable food, medications, first aid supplies, flashlights, batteries, and important documents.
4. Secure your home
Even before the rainy season arrives, reinforce windows and doors, clear gutters and drains, and secure outdoor items that could become projectiles in high winds. Consider installing storm shutters if you live in a high-risk area.
5. Know your evacuation zone
Familiarize yourself with local evacuation zones and routes. Follow evacuation orders promptly to avoid getting caught in dangerous conditions. In cases of emergency, help evacuate first children, PWDs, the elderly, and pregnant women.
